LA SELLA GOLF ACADEMY
Our Mission is to grow the game of golf in the Costa Blanca. This game has to be grown by professionals with a passion for their work, and it has to start from the base, the younger population. If we get some kids interested in this wonderful game every year, we will increase the number of golfers in the region and if we involve their families, we are reaching a population of thousands trying golf, with some hundreds loving it for their lifetimes.
Since 2016 our school is inside the Municipal Sport Schools of Denia, with the intention to popularize the game among our closest neighbours.
We try to inspire students to lead an sporting life, to thrive for improvement and physical development. To be able to achieve these goals, the first thing is to enjoy and have fun to learn, train to grow and enjoy the game to its fullest.
OUR PROFESSIONAL TEAM
We have been managing the Golf Academy in La Sella since 2009, but our professionals, all certified by the PGA of GB & I and PGA of Spain, our Director, Dino Ferrer holds the PGA AA category, the highest in Spain, have a combined experience of 46 years as PGA professionals, more than 48.000 lessons given, and 2.200 hours of tuition per year.
Jason Seed has been a golf professional since 1991, and belongs to the PGA of Great Britain and Ireland, the most prestigious worldwide. Has been teaching since 1991 with thousands of golfers that have turned into friends.
Michael McCarthy is a PGA of GB & I assistant professional and has joined La Sella Academy in April 2017, up to date with new technologies and teaching systems, is a good asset to our staff.
Only in La Sella, we have started thousands of golfers to golf, with a high rate of continuation in the activity.
Reliability, security, care for the student and honoring our commitments is our identity. Continuous training helps us to build up on experience and improve on every new course.
Dear parents and students, we want to thank you for choosing our school again or for the first time. We welcome you to the 2021-22 golf school at La Sella Golf Academy. We hope that your children enjoy and learn this wonderful game of golf.
We are the leaders in the Costa Blanca as we have more students attending our lessons and participating in competitions than any other school. Since 2009 our Golf Academy has grown from 14 regular kids, to around 140, and more attend our golf classes only during their University holidays and summer.
We have federated more than 560 of new golfers. We organize and run the Academy competitions, both for juniors and beginners.
Every year we organize 20 plus competitions for our students, one of them at the end of every trimester, with very high attendance and fun. Also the Parents & Children competition has more than 9 editions.
Only our students have access to the Academy Membership that has around 30 committed junior members that benefit from the better prices to play, shop, and practice at La Sella golf resort. The future of golf is in the younger generations of today.
BEGINNING AND END
The 2021-22 course begins on the 22nd of September 2021 and ends on the 20th of June 2022. The course is divided in three terms October-December, January-March and April-June.
There are between 11 and 13 coaching sessions per trimester, with a duration of one hour per class.
PHILOSOPHY AND METHODOLOGY.
Our Philosophy is “play to learn to play” and “promoting sporting life”. Based on the theory Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) we scale according to age and level, the difficulty of the games and challenges. This theory is to first learn to play the game and then, as questions arise, try to solve them, learning the technique, the skills and the competences to enjoy the game.
In each area of the game we thrive to acquire the necessary competences to be able to play and compete. The ball flight laws and the impact factors are the guidelines to the work on the technique.
The values that sport and golf in particular teaches the player are: effort, sportspersonship, honesty, integrity, respect to others, accountability and predisposition to learning and growing.
Lessons start with a few minutes of fitness preparation (warm up, balance, agility, coordination, …) then an explanation of the session (short game, putt, full swing, woods, play on the course,...) and directly to the training. Last minutes are to summarize the lesson.
Groups are created according to level, age, affinity and convenience. There will be a maximum of 6 students per class for the younger and a maximum of 8 for the older students.
Age groups are the following (it can change according to level, affinity and convenience)
From 7 to 9 years old
From 9 to 11 years old
From 11 to 14 years old
From 15 and over
Golf is probably one of the sports/activities with the lowest risk of contagion, but 100% risk free is impossible. During the game and during the lessons:
THERE IS NO PHYSICAL CONTACT BETWEEN PLAYERS.
WE ARE IN OPEN NATURAL SPACES.
THERE IS NO SHARING OF EQUIPMENT.
IT IS NOT ONLY SIMPLE BUT ALSO ADVISABLE TO MAINTAIN A SECURITY DISTANCE (1,5-2m) WITH OTHER GOLFERS WHILE PLAYING GOLF (IT’S IN THE RULES OF ETIQUETTE)
With a few safety and precaution measures, the risk of contagion is very low:
BEFORE THE LESSONS:
In case you suspect or know that you have been in contact with a positive case in Covid-19, please avoid coming to the golf course, unless you have passed a negative Covid-19 test after the contact.
If you or someone close to you has symptoms of covid-19, please stay home until you have a negative test result.
DURING THE LESSONS:
All students have to bring their bottle of hydroalcoholic gel, to use it when necessary. it is recommended not to share it.
All students must bring their own mask, to be used when the safety distance is difficult to maintain. During the course of the class, the teacher will indicate when it can be removed and when to wear the mask.
All students will bring their own water or food (if considered necessary) and avoid sharing with their classmates.
Students must maintain a safe distance throughout the class and follow the teacher's instructions and advice. In the event that the student ignores the teacher and does not maintain a safe distance when instructed, the teacher may expel the student from class to avoid unnecessary risks.
We have golf clubs for students to use during the class, but under these circumstances, we strongly recommend that students acquire their own set of clubs, preferably before the start of the second quarter. We sell new and second hand sets at retail price only for our students. We also recommend a visit to local golf shops (Campbell Lamont, Golf Med, etc.) to be fitted. The less equipment is shared, the lower the risks of spreading the disease.
This course is the first in which we have to live with the virus in the best possible way. It is an uncomfortable situation, but it is mandatory that we take all possible precautions, following the advice of the health authorities. During this summer we have learned from experience and we have found that it is possible to comply with the recommended precautionary rules if we all make the effort.
Golf is a game with a very low risk of injuries or accidents, and over these 12 years we haven’t had to lament any. Notwithstanding, we are using heavy and metallic implements, hitting hard balls at high speeds, so in order to avoid any unwanted incident everyone needs to follow some security rules. In this regard, If any student doesn’t follow the teacher's advice, putting other students, golfers or staff under risk of injury, he or she will be immediately sent off the class and suspended.
On the golf course or the driving range:
NEVER STRIKE A BALL IF THERE IS ANYBODY WITHIN REACHING DISTANCE IN THE LINE OF PLAY.
NEVER SWING THE GOLF CLUB IF THERE IS ANYBODY WITHIN REACHING DISTANCE OF YOUR GOLF CLUB. THREE METERS RULE. NEVER SWING CLOSER THAN 3 METERS FROM OTHER PLAYERS.
SPANISH GOLF FEDERATION LICENSE
It is compulsory for all the students of the La Sella Golf Academy Youth School to obtain an Royal Spanish Golf Federation License, at the beginning of the second term. The Academy Director will email the documentation to fill up and return. This license is necessary to go out on any golf course in Spain and it includes an accident insurance for the player.
UNEXPECTED CIRCUMSTANCES, SUSPENSION AND/OR POSTPONEMENT OF LESSONS
This program will be subject to variation due to any unforeseen circumstance (bad weather, works in the golf course facilities, indisposition of a teacher, ...) always in favor of the student and his/her learning.
In the event of a warning due to bad weather, temporary confinement, etc., by the competent authorities (Generalitat Valenciana, City Council, Civil Protection, ...) classes will be canceled while the alert lasts. Otherwise, there is class.
In case of indisposition of a teacher, classes will not be canceled, students will be grouped with the other teachers circumstantially. If it is known well in advance, students will be notified in advance and these classes will be suspended. Classes missed will be made up on the day and time that is most convenient for the majority of affected students. In case of reaching the end of the term without being able to recuperate the class, the amount corresponding to the missed sessions will be returned to each student or, it will be discounted in the following term.
NON RECOVERABLE CLASSES.
The loss of classes due to the student absence does not give the right to recover them. In case of illness or injury causing absence for more than one month, the Direction will study the case and decide how to compensate the student.
CONTACT AND INFORMATION
The School Direction is available through:
Phone and WhatsApp: (+34) 629 416 629
Regularly, parents will receive communication via email or WhatsApp to remind them of events, changes to the program, dates of registration for tournaments, etc.
The course will be paid by trimesters. The price of a trial class is € 10 and a trial month € 45. If the student continues after the trial, the amount paid will be deducted from the trimester payment.
The quarterly price is € 90 for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday morning and Sunday morning classes, and € 96 per quarter for Saturday afternoon classes.
The payment of the classes will be by direct debit.
GAMES, TOURNAMENTS AND COMPETITIONS
Our school celebrates different types of games, competitions and tournaments organizing 20 plus events annually. There is a quarterly game at the end of each quarter to which all students in the school are called to participate. Participation is individual and / or in teams. At the end of each quarterly game there is an awards ceremony snack.
The students will participate in the games according to their age and physical and technical development. To do this, we reduce the length of the holes to adapt them to the distance that the players achieve so that it is an achievable challenge for almost all students.
The little ones will play in teams on the pitch & putt holes. As they get more distance, they will go out to the course, from advanced tees according to age and level, participating in 6 holes, 9 holes or 18 holes.
In the end-of-year competition we do an awards dinner but, this year it is not planned for the moment since social gatherings with more than 10 people are not allowed (as of this document, September 2021) and, if done, we will study the best way to carry it out so that it complies with all security measures
For federated players there is an average of three School ranking tournaments per quarter. The awards ceremony will take place at the end of each quarter.
In the third quarter, the family game is played (parents and children, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren, etc.). The awards ceremony will be held during the end-of-year dinner, if it is done. If not, individual presentations will be made.
Students and their parents are responsible for registering for tournaments prior to the deadline established for it. It can be done by answering the email that is sent, or by registering on the list displayed in the golf club reception. They are also responsible for having the federative license active.
For competitions outside the club, in other clubs, federative, etc. the student is solely responsible for their enrollment in them. Teachers will be able to advise on external competitions.
